Where Purebred Meets Practical

ABOUT
OUR PROGRAM
Welcome to 3 Of Diamonds Cattle Company!
We are a small-scale operation, located in the SE corner of Saskatchewan in Carnduff, 20 minutes from both the Manitoba and North Dakota borders.
The love of shorthorn influenced cattle was lost to time in the Turton family, my father would mention those old blue roan cows his dad and grandfather use to milk, and how easy they were to handle. The top photo was a shorthorn bull my grandpa bought at the Regina Bull Sale back in the 70’s. *currently trying to learn more about this bull.
My first official shorthorn influenced female was purchased at the 2011 Canadian Western Agribition Prospect sale for $600. She didn’t look like much, but man could she raise calves! The bottom photo is a daughter of hers I sold to a gentleman in Alberta. He used her as a
4-H project and is now a recip dam for his purebred Simmental & Charolais operation.
My love for the breed developed when I was at college in Vermilion AB, I use to lend a hand at Dixon Farms on weekends or after classes. Anything that needed done, cleaning barns, organizing tack rooms, moving the cattle, helping with calving checks, you name it. I fell in love with all the Dixon cattle, but my favourite had to be the sweet DF True Love 3T. In March of 2014, 3T had a big, beautiful roan heifer calf, DF True Love 3B. I had the pleasure of purchasing 3B in 2016 - to establish the first purebred shorthorn genetics to the Turton family farm.
I get asked occasionally, why “3 of Diamonds” – I felt like a "diamond in the rough" starting a purebred Shorthorn herd when I grew up raising commercial Hereford/Angus cattle. Where the thought of purebred only existed in the bulls we purchased. The number 3 represents many things; good things come in threes, the power of three, and third times the charm. In numerology, 3 symbolizes optimism, enthusiasm and the ability to find beauty in the world around us – things I wanted to channel in my new endeavour. Coincidently, the 3 also represents the colour patterns of the Shorthorn breed: Red, White and Roan.
Functionality Focused - Quality Assured - Defect-Free Guarantee
I am raising my purebred herd along side our family commercial herd, with no special treatment. At the end of the day, we are all in the beef business, regardless of the operation. All the purebreds have been GGP 50k or 100k panel tested or come from tested parents and are defect-free unless otherwise mentioned. I strive to raise functional shorthorn cattle, versatile enough for the worlds of purebred, commercial and the show ring. Good conformation, calving ease, and strong maternal qualities are always traits I select for. The goals for my herd and my involvement in the Shorthorn breed are to apply a greater emphasis on easy-keeping cattle without losing femininity, better muscle shape and expression and improved carcass quality and marbling traits. When people think Shorthorn, I want them to think tasty beef, and low maintenance cattle.
